High Fructose Corn Syrup And…Autism?

by Jhet Bhlak on February 9, 2009

I just read a post by Laurel on Health Food about High Fructose Corn Syrup and the concentration of mercury found in it. It seems Laurel got the original information from an Institute For Agriculture and Trade Policy study.

The study found that 50% of commercial HFCS samples tested positive for mercury. The FDA has had this information since 2005 but has not done anything about it. The mercury gets into the High Fructose Corn Syrup through the processing of the corn kernels.

Now this is pure speculation on my part (no one has scientifically linked HFCS and autism together) but since there has been an outcry by some people on vaccines being a possible cause for autism because of the mercury, shouldn’t we look more into High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) being a cause of autism as well? Does the HFCS consumption rate increase parallel the autism rate increases of the last couple of decades?

Downright scary.

Here is an article about mercury and autism in Texas.

Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry information on mercury..

If you found this post by searching for Jhet HFCS from youtube, you may also want to read my Thimerosal and Autism post about the recent court decision stating there is no link between Autism and vaccines.
