Haiti Bound!

This is something that I have mixed feelings about. My father has decided to go to Haiti for a couple of weeks and help with the disaster relief efforts. You see he works for the FAA and they have a program where you can sign up to be a volunteer for relief efforts. Well he signed up a couple of months ago and they gave him a call the other day and asked if he would like to go. He said yes and started the process of getting his passport and preparing for the trip. I’m not quite sure when he is leaving but it will be sometime within the next month I think.

I think it is great that he is going to help out, I really do.  But…it’s in Haiti! And that is kind of scary. I mean the country is in ruins from the earthquake and it sounds like it will get worse before it gets better with the rainy season coming soon. And he isn’t as young as he used to be so that is a concern as well..

But then again…isn’t that why they need help? If the country wasn’t in such shambles form the earthquake they wouldn’t really need the help. If they could fix their problems by themselves I think that they would prefer to do that rather than have the USA dropping by. At least that is the impression I get from some of the political news stories that I have read.

So as I said, I have mixed feelings on the situation. It’s great that he is helping because they really need it…but does it have to be my dad that has to go there?

What do you think?
